Just look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you
What more is you lookin’ for?
Summer holidays is a time to spend some quality time with the kids. I have a TODO list of places to visit. Visiting California Academy of Sciences was certainly one of them.
Ever since I saw Sir David Attenborough’s Blue Planet, more than a decade old now, I continue to be fascinated by the marine creatures. The adaptations, the beauty, is just mind boggling.
My title may say, Under the Sea, but the cal academy is just not about the marine animals, there are rain forests to see and other science activities for kids of all ages.
Skulls was the new exhibit at the cal academy when we visited.
While the academy focuses on Science, the Art exhibit shown below was a pleasant surprise.
Three rain forests of the world, namely, Borneo, Costa rica and Madagascar are presented in a dome with the native fauna along with the birds and butterflies. It takes you to a different world.
Besides the above exhibit, we also saw a show in the planetarium, narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Kids also attended the Earth Quake exhibit. A day very well spent for the kids and adults as well.
BTW, forgot to mention that we got a little adventurous and took the public transport, caltrain and MUNI. Planned the trip using 511 Transit Trip Planner. There is a 511 app for your android and iOS smartphones.
