santhe – an event or a day when people assemble at a place, to display or sell things
“chitra santhe” is an annual event, usually celebrated on the last Sunday of January, hosted by Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat. It is a very unique event, ’cause artists from all over India, big and small, young and old, assemble to display/sell their art work. There is no fee (neither for seller nor entrance fee for the visitor). All the stalls are typically put up on the road (Kumara Krupa Road), which is the road that leads to Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat and Hotel Lalit Ashok. There are stalls inside the campus of Chitrakala Parishat too. One can see art pieces sold from Rs 100 to a few lakhs. It is a must see event if you are in Bangalore. The santhe starts at 9am and goes on till 8pm. If you want to avoid the rush, please be there around 9:30am. As the day progresses, the road will be full of art admirers and buyers.
Here are some of the pictures that I took; will blog it in 2 parts. It is meant for those who missed the show. It is also meant to showcase the diverse nature of art. Please do not copy any of this artwork or download any of the images. It is some artist’s original art. They were kind enough to let me photograph their work.
